STEPS INITIATIVE

"STEPS OF FAITH TOWARD GENERATIONAL IMPACT"

Imagine a place where young lives are transformed, lifelong memories are made, and faith is nurtured in a setting that inspires connection with God and one another. Lincoln Lake Baptist Camp has been such a place since 1938, and now, we are embarking on the most ambitious expansion in recent history. The “STEPS” initiative seeks to enhance our facilities with retreat centers, a gymnasium, and a welcome center, ensuring that every camper and guest experiences the warmth, inspiration, and growth that define our mission. This project isn’t just about buildings—it’s about creating opportunities for to serve our churches better, fostering deeper connections, and preparing Lincoln Lake to serve even more people in more ways year-round for generations to come. Join us in making this vision a reality!

The Value of camp...

  • Libby berry

Lincoln Lake Camp has single-handedly been the most influential thing in my life as far as spiritual community, guidance, and teaching. I first came as a camper to Lincoln Lake in 2017, and I had the wonderful opportunity to be welcomed into a place with a fiery passion for God and a heart for His people. I continued as a camper for three more years, and my life took a turn for the worse. Thing after thing seemed to go wrong, and I drifted away from God. In 2022, I came back to Lincoln Lake as a volunteering staff member. I had made an agreement with my older sister (who was a Summer Staff Member) to try one week. One single week. But in just one week, my thirst for Jesus grew, and I decided to come back for more. One more week. Just one. But somehow, that turned into two. And three. And four. And I volunteered for the whole summer. I learned so much about God, His love, and discipleship. It was at camp that I rededicated my life to God.

Fast forward to 2025, and I have worked three whole summers at LLBYC. The things I have learned, experienced, and been able to be a part of, have changed my life, and certainly many others. The value of LLBYC is beyond just a summer camp. It's not just a week to get away, it's the beginning to so much more. I know I’m not the only one with ‘Lincoln Lake Baptist Camp’ in their testimony. And with the help of donors, staff, volunteers, and people spreading the word, Lincoln Lake can continue to provide this exact thing to many others. Pointing the upcoming generation to Christ, like Matthew says: making disciples of all nations, and spreading the joy of the Lord and His love for His people.

It’s extremely difficult to encapsulate all of what camp has meant for me since my first year way back in sixth grade. It’s been a place of personal growth, both through my journey in life, learning how to become a man and what that means as well as through the Lord; through all the times that I have gone astray and became a lukewarm Christian, as we all do, this camp has been the lasso pulling me back to the Word through its many chapel sessions and daily devotionals. Most importantly, it’s the place where I initially came to Jesus and got saved! Hunter, the camp counselor who gave me the instructions on how to enter Christ’s kingdom, has been a mentor of sorts to me. He’s always been there for me especially when life was not looking the greatest for me.

My dad passed away when I was a junior in high school and of course, during that time I wasn’t in the best mindset. Hunter was one of the first people to help me and guide me to the Word again, and though you never truly get over those types of situations, the love I felt from that year from Hunter and the camp came only behind my family and my friends from school. The sense of community I felt has to be my favorite experience.

The late-night talks before (and at times after) lights out with my friends Sam, Ben, Austin (or as we call him ET), Diego, and Ish along with others. The times when we’d be walking around the camp together, at the time being complete strangers to now, three years later, these same guys are nothing less than friends for life. The intense gravity of the Friday night football games, the times I’ve seen my buddies cry and go through hardship but still have the courage to share the details with us. The times I’ve joked with those same people on the same night they were so vulnerable, even the strange mixed feelings of hopefulness but sadness that I felt every year waking up on the last day of camp.

These experiences have not only shaped me but have frozen me in that position. Lincoln Lake Bible Camp has effectively created a culture that is for studying the Word but also for studying and loving one another, looking past differences and past the one week we are together in the year. The memories from this camp are so vivid and powerful and are something I will cherish and hope to share!

STEPS Initiative

In my devotions recently, I have spent time reading through through the Gospels.  It is always encouraging to see how God used people to do incredible things.  And each time it started with just one step.  This really hit home for me as I was reading Matthew 14:22-33.  God called Peter to come to Him on the water and Peter ACTUALLY STEPPED OUT OF THE BOAT and WALKED ON THE WATER! God is still calling people to do amazing things today.  We may not know what the end looks like, but we know the first step.

We believe God is calling us as a ministry to take a first step.  We don’t know exactly what His timeline is, what the end result will be, or how He will use this first step, but we know that He is directing.  So we want to follow.

We believe that the first step is to invest in the core facilities at camp.  God used the generosity and foresight of individuals and churches back in the 1960’s to construct the 11 cabins we are still using today.  They have served thousands of individuals over the last 50+ years.  But it is now time to invest in the next 50 years.  The year round ministry of Lincoln Lake Baptist Camp to the churches in West Central Michigan is growing, and our cabins are no longer able to meet the needs effectively.  We believe God is calling us to enhance our year round capabilities by building the 1st of 4 retreat centers.  This is STEP #1.  This retreat center will consist of 4 new cabin rooms (40 beds), 2 individual bathrooms/showers in each room, and a 30x50 meeting room space.  Retreat Center #1 will replace Cabins 8-11.

We recognize that this is just the first STEP.  God’s call to follow doesn’t end with the construction of a building.  He is calling us a lifetime of steps.  This initiative is the visual reminder of our commitment to follow.
